‘No coffee, no prana’

I quit plastic water bottles, its time to quit non-reusable coffee cups!

Yoga & Joyful Living

‘No coffee, no prana (life energy)’, Ashtanga yoga’s founder Pattabhi Jois famously said, and apparently in the very early Mysore days, when yoga was still some weird Indian fad (can anyone even remember that?), Guruji’s wife would stick her head into the yoga room after practice and ask: ‘Coffee now, OK?’

Pure bliss, in the making. Pure bliss, in the making.

See, and this is where the problem starts. If you’re into Ayurveda you’ll be made aware by your doctor that coffee, well, coffee just isn’t for you. Nor is it for anyone else, in fact. If you have an Ayurvedic practitioner who is firmly rooted in this world and refrains from demanding supernatural things from his patients (such as giving up coffee), he’ll add: ‘If you must take coffee, take with milk. A lot of milk. And cinnamon.’ Apparently this will make handling coffee easier for the body, but my feeling is rather the reverse –…

Blueberry Goji Banana Oatmeal GOOD MORNING!

MMM MMM I love breakfast! On my days off or when I have mornings off I always try to create something new, delicious, and nutritious with whatever I have lying around. Today I hit the jackpot so I just have to share. Todays creation is steel cut oats made with almond milk, and then I added blueberries, goji berries, banana, peanut butter powder, and ground flax seed.

oatmeal

Paired with a hot cup of Chai Matte Tea! A glass of water, and the second half of a Iced Bhakti Chai.  I always end up having two-three beverages in the morning with breakfast. Gotta stay hydrated!

SO all you do is make the oatmeal… Boil 1-2/3 Cups Almond Milk then add 2 Cups Oatmeal. Cook on the stovetop for about 5 minutes or until oats are done.  Add more milk or water is you want a soupier consistency.

NEXT. Add in whatever you want! I took about 1/3 of the oatmeal and put in in a bowl. Added a handful of blueberries, a handful go goji berries , sliced half a banana and threw it in.  Then I added 2TBS of PB2 the powdered peanut butter, and then 1TBS of organic ground flax seed and STIRRED.

THEN VOILE!

Just Doing IT

I Did IT!

I taught my first yoga class today!..Sort of.  My neighbors got together this afternoon and agreed to let me teach them what I have been practicing in teacher training.  It wasn’t perfect but it felt so good! I am so grateful that I am surrounded by people who believe in me and are supporting me in what I want to do.  Without them I’m not sure if I would ever climb out of my shell and have the confidence to teach yoga.  Over the past few weeks I feel I have been able to grow as a person and conquer so many fears because of the lovely supportive people in my life.  I am so grateful.  Thank you!

Half the battle is just getting yourself to DO IT, whatever it is, and then once you do you it you’ll be glad you did! Continue reading

Parsva Bakasana

Parsva Bakasana

Its not perfect but that is why they call it practice! I’m still trying to get my arms straight, but it still feels good to get my feet off the ground.

“This pose Strengthens the arms. By continued practice the lateral muscles of the abdomen will develop and the intestines will grow stronger!” (Light on Yoga)
